I trained in Glasgow and qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1985. On qualifying I worked on both general surgical and orthopaedics wards before undertaking the ENB 100 Intensive Care Nursing course in 1987. I have worked within a variety of critical care settings since 1987, in a number of different positions and am currently undertaking my Doctorate in Nursing. I'm also an honorary lecturer at my local university, teaching on a variety of undergraduate and post graduate programmes.
I have presented at local, national, european and international conferences, and have published several papers in peer reviewed journals. In addition to this I represent critical care nursing in several forums including on the National Board of British Association of Critical Care Nurses, the Intensive Care Society’s Standards, Safety and Quality Committee, and currently sit on the Organ Donation Taskforce group. I am a peer reviewer for two critical care nursing journals; Nursing in Critical Care and Intensive and Critical Care Nursing, and am on the Editorial Board for Nursing in Critical Care.
