Appointed as a public governor for the Trust in April 2014
I am a retired Deputy Head teacher of a comprehensive school, where I was also a Teacher Governor, so I have wide experience of educational management. After retirement, I worked in the Patient Advice and Liaison Service Office as a volunteer and learned about patients' concerns and problems. I have also worked as a supply teacher for students with special needs.
Why I became a governor
Following a diagnosis of bowel cancer in 2011, I am now in remission due to the skills of the medical and nursing staff. I have come in contact with several departments in the hospital as a patient and I fully appreciate the work they do. I wanted to share the appreciation with the people in Medway.
What I plan to achieve
I hope to assist the hospital staff in attaining the highest possible standards of health care.
- Support fo cancer patients
- The prevention of COPD and support for patients with respiratory diseases
- I am a keen world-wide traveller and, when at home, enjoy painting in watercolours
