Pharmacy placements

PharmacyWorkExperience

A career in pharmacy offers the chance to make a positive difference to people’s lives and wellbeing. If you have a keen interest in science or medicines, but also want to make a difference in a patient facing role, then why not choose a career in pharmacy?

Medway NHS Foundation Trust's Pharmacy Department offers a number of work experience opportunities throughout the year with the aim to provide an insight into a career in pharmacy and the different career opportunities available to you.

Summer vacation pharmacy undergraduate placement

A summer vacation pharmacy undergraduate placement is available for second and third year undergraduate pharmacy students currently studying on the MPharm programme. Depending on demand, third year undergraduates will have priority placement to support them with their Oriel applications for Foundation Training.

During this placement, you will get the opportunity to accompany pharmacy technicians and pharmacists onto the ward, and undertake some clinical activity under supervision of the technician or pharmacist. You will be expected to complete a patient profile, present this to the education team and complete a reflective practice diary.

During this placement, you will get little taster sessions across all pharmacy sessions including homecare services, clinical trials, aseptic services and dispensary. On request, we can also discuss Foundation Training and what this might look like at Medway NHS Foundation Trust.

Please note, depending on demand, you may be required to attend an interview. Further information will be provided at the end of the application period.

Please be aware that placement activities are dependent on capacity and may be subject to change at short notice.

Summer vacation research placement

As a department which is fully engaged with quality improvement processes, the Pharmacy Department is also trying to build its research portfolio, and this opens up opportunities for students to support this research activity under supervision.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about a specialist area of practice within a clinical speciality and allows you to develop your leadership and management capability and develop your research skills. This placement will usually be one week long, or the duration can be negotiated based on the requirements of the research project and the capacity for supervision.

Please note that this placement is dependent on having a project proposal in place, at the time of the placement request.

This placement is only suitable for a student currently studying on the MPharm programme.
