West Kent regional centre for urology

“With Canterbury Christchurch University we have established a pioneering Masters programme in minimally invasive surgery with the option to specialise in orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology and general surgery. We host international conferences and will work concertedly with our academic partners into the future to make Medway a true asset for the region.”

Professor Matin Sheriff – Consultant Urological Surgeon

“Teaching really informs our practice here too. I myself am a senior lecturer at Canterbury Christchurch University, a tutor at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. It is a pleasure to work alongside colleagues who are professors in their fields and examiners for the FRCS exams.”

Bijayendra Singh – Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon

Areas of excellence

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

“The staff on our level 3 neonatal unit are experts in the care of the sickest and most vulnerable babies in the region; always helpful and knowledgeable. Even during pressurised periods when we have experienced consistently high occupancy, we have maintained standards at or above national levels. The quality of the care we provide is reflected in our excellent National Neonatal Audit Programme attainment which typically ranks in the nation’s top ten. I am passionate about developing an inclusive culture of multi-professional learning within the neonates department. We have built structured support for junior doctors into our practice. We work in close harmony with the Trust’s obstetricians and regularly co-present at teaching sessions on the ante- and post-natal pathway. The amalgamation of the department with other Women’s and Children’s specialities under one umbrella will serve to strengthen this ongoing collaboration.”

Ghada Ramadan – Neonatology Consultant and Kent, Surrey and Sussex Mentor of the Year, 2013

“There are so many skills you can acquire here. There is sufficient work to allow us to generate top quality publications – I myself have managed to produce more than 30 in the last five years. Trainees are always encouraged to publish nationally and internationally.”

Raju Kalidindi – Consultant Obstetric and Orthopaedic Anaesthetist.
