- Which screening tools is used in your hospital to aid early recognition and treatment of sepsis?
The Trust uses the UK Sepsis Trust Screening tools within the Emergency Department and In-patient areas (endorsed by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence NICE) - Do you have a National Early Warning Score (NEWS2) system at your Hospital for sepsis management?
Yes - What score would alert your hospital to consider sepsis treatment for patient?
All in-patients who trigger an aggregated NEWS2 of 5 or above (or 3 in one area) - What is the mortality rate of sepsis at your hospital for 2019, 2020 and 2021?
- 2019 – 15%
- 2020 – 18%
- 2021 – 19%
- Do you have sepsis information materials (booklets) for patients and their loved ones at your intensive care unit?
Yes.- The Trust offer Sepsis UK information booklets at our critical care follow up clinic (2-3 months after discharge).
- Patients are given a discharge pack, during their discharge from critical care.
- This pack contains information on our critical care support group, critical care follow up clinic.
- Information on going home after critical care and ICU Steps information booklet for patients and relatives.
- All this information contains contact details for our after care services, where patients are encouraged to contact us if they require information or support.
- All the information booklets have useful websites, and contact details including the Sepsis Trust.
- All information and leaflets were removed in the relatives room during COVID, it is now our priority to ensure this information is available for our patients and relatives prior to discharge home.
- Do you have support service information for victims of sepsis?
Yes. Patients who attend clinic are informed on the Sepsis UK Trust, and the services they offer including support groups they run. Leaflets from the Sepsis Trust UK are now available in our visiting area for all relatives to access. Information will continue to be available in our discharge packs and given in clinics. - Do you have information about sepsis on your hospital website?
