Limited parking is available at Medway Maritime Hospital. All patients and visitors are welcome to use it, however, we recommend you come by public transport where possible.
There are two car parks for patients and visitors. Car Park 1 is located at the hospital front entrance and Car Park 2 at the entrance to the Sunderland Day Case Centre / next to the ramp for Green Zone Level 2. Both car parks use Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR).
Please pay for your parking after your appointment by using one of the pay stations. Or if paying by card or contactless, you can pay on exit at the barrier.
Where to find our parking pay stations
- inside the main hospital entrance (next to security and reception desk)
- inside the Atrium – Level 2, Green Zone

Blue badges
Blue badge parking is available in Car Park 1 (ground floor). Please follow the signs when you arrive on site.
Parking for blue badge holders is free.
Most Blue Badge holders can scan their Blue Badge at the pay machine or exit barrier as you leave the car park. The barrier will automatically lift when exiting the car park.
If you were issued a ticket on arrival, please scan it at a pay station or exit barrier using your ticket rather than your vehicle registration.
Please visit the Security Desk in the main entrance to validate your free parking. You must bring your Blue Badge with you and provide your registration plate number. The person pictured on your Blue Badge must be present.
Car parking concessions
We offer a wide range of concessions to make car parking accessible for our patients and visitors.
Please speak to a member of staff in the ward or department you are visiting, and they will be able to help you access a claim form. Completed forms should be taken to the security desk in the hospital main entrance, along with your registration plate number, which they can then validate for you.
- Relatives or carers of a patient receiving end of life care
- Oncology patients attending the hospital for day treatment with a valid three or six-month form
- Patients who attend hospital appointments frequently – at least three times within a month, for more than three months. Please remind them they need to keep parking receipts for the relevant parking claim and take these as well as proof of the appointments to the General Office
- Disabled patients and visitors who hold a Blue Badge – they simply need to scan the barcode on their Blue Badge at a payment machine or at the exit barrier as they drive out of the car park.
- Patients who arrive to find their appointment has been cancelled.
- Visitors or carers of patients in our Intensive Care Unit (ITU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), Special Care Baby Unit, Dolphin Ward or Penguin Ward
- Visitors of patients who have been in hospital for more than seven consecutive days, and are assisting in the care or treatment of their relative.
Forms are issued and completed by wards for eligible visitors. Only one concession will be issued per patient.
- Outpatient clinics when we are responsible for clinics over-running. Authorisation slips will be provided by senior outpatient staff.
- Red badge holders when accessing red badge paediatric services. Forms are available from the ward.
