A new drop box has been introduced to our Audiology Department to make it easier for patients to drop off their hearing aids that are in need of repairing.
Located in the department’s reception area (Green Zone, Level 2), patients can now simply pop their hearing aids that need repairing in to the envelope provided, add their name, date of birth, and contact number on the front of it and then drop it into the box.
For those visiting outside of Audiology’s opening hours, which are Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm, the drop box can still be accessed via the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) emergency department (Green Zone, Level 2).
Once the hearing aids have been assessed and repaired, a member of the team will contact the patient to arrange collection.
The drop box idea came about because patients were showing up on weekends expecting the department to be open and then asking to leave their hearing aids with ENT staff, who couldn’t accept them.
Audiology Administrator Amanda Stebbeds said: “Because our department isn’t open at the weekends, and we don’t operate a walk-in service during opening hours, our patients were struggling to handover their broken hearing aids when staff weren’t available.
“Thanks to the drop box, patients now have a safe and simple way to leave their hearing aids for repairs without the wait, helping both patients and our team.”
