Congratulations to Hospital Radio Medway (HRM-FM) presenter Shannon Griffin who has picked up the Gold Award for Best Female Presenter at the Hospital Broadcasting Association’s annual conference.
The Hospital Broadcasting Awards is an annual event celebrating outstanding presenters, programmes and stations across the UK, who provide entertainment and information to hospital patients, staff, visitors and local communities.
The judges, comprised of industry and hospital broadcasting experts, said: “Shannon deserved Gold as she is really engaging with a great personality and a real joy to listen to.”

Shannon, who lives in St Mary’s Island, joined HRM-FM in 2018. Each week she presents The Request Show on Monday evenings, bringing her warm, engaging style to patients and colleagues throughout the hospital.
Shannon said: “I’m really delighted to win the national Best Female presenter award. I love the interaction with patients and staff. We have some lively conversations and we often get patients talking to each other. I’m sure this interaction lessens the boredom and isolation which some people feel.”
HRM-FM is the on-air name for Hospital Radio Medway, part of the Medway League of Friends and a registered charity. The station, founded in 1970, is staffed entirely by volunteers and operates from studios in the hospital on Level 1, just along the corridor from the restaurant, Below Deck Dining.
HRM-FM broadcasts programmes for patients, colleagues, visitors and volunteers 24 hours a day, seven days a week on 87.9FM, on smart speakers, apps and the website.
