Centre stage for EPR success

EPR Success News

The Trust showcased the successful roll-out of phase one of its Electronic Patient Records (EPR) programme at the Digital Health Rewired conference on Tuesday 15 March.

Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer Paula Tinniswood took to the Digital Transformation Stage to share this chapter in the Trust’s digital transformation journey with a packed audience. She stood in for Chief Executive Dr George Findlay who was due to present but was unfortunately unable to attend.

The audience heard how the Trust earned a global first by becoming the first healthcare organisation in the world to go live with version 21.1 of the Sunrise EPR; also how a phased approach was adopted in order to reduce the potential impact of the transition on patient care. The presentation included how Digital Champions were key to the success by bringing key messages direct to colleagues caring for patients in the wards; and how the Trust and partners Allscripts worked collaboratively with a genuine ‘one-team’ approach.

Paula said: “It was a large audience, made up of others in the system keen to hear the secrets of our success and how we are planning for the next phases. I was delighted to be able to share our story and hopefully inspire colleagues elsewhere in the NHS to take a similar approach, to facilitate their own success stories.”

More than 2,000 people attended the event on its first day, including colleagues from Medway NHS Foundation Trust and Allscripts. A case study telling the full story of the Trust and Allscripts’ partnership and successful deployment of phase one was shared with visitors.

The first phase of EPR roll-out saw the Trust go live with Sunrise in 26 adult in-patient wards and Same Day Emergency Care in November 2021. The Trust is now focused on bringing EPR to its Emergency Department in July 2022 and Pharmacy Department in September 2022.
