Nursery children added some festive sparkle to Medway Maritime Hospital on Wednesday 3 December by officially switching on the hospital’s Christmas tree lights.

Four-year-olds Hudson and Edward, alongside three-year old Athena, who attend Tiny Tugs Nursery on the hospital site, pushed the big red button at the hospital’s annual lights switch on ceremony.
Amanda Richards, Tiny Tugs Nursery Manager, said: “Our children are always really excited to be involved in the annual lights switch on. It was lovely for them to take part in this tradition and for their parents, who work at the hospital, to watch this special occasion.”
Before the main event, members of the Walderslade and Greenacre Schools’ choir sang Christmas carols to get everyone in a festive mood.
Danielle Breckin, the school’s Head of Music, said: “We were delighted to be invited back to sing Christmas carols at this year’s lights switch on. The students worked really hard to perfect their performance and were thrilled to be able to spread some Christmas cheer.”
Siobhan Callanan, Interim Deputy Chief Executive of Medway NHS Foundation Trust, said: “I would like to thank everyone who joined us for this festive occasion and, in particular, our youngest guests, who did such a brilliant job of turning on the lights and singing Christmas songs.
“I would also like to thank The Medway Hospital Charity for supporting the Christmas trees for our Reflection Garden and main roundabout.”
The holiday season can be a challenging time for those spending it in hospital. To help bring warmth and joy to our wards, Christmas trees and festive decorations have been put up. These touches not only brighten the environment but also provide comfort to patients, visitors, and staff.
Donna Law, Head of the Medway Hospital Charity, said: “We were so pleased to be able to sprinkle some Christmas sparkle across the hospital site and we’d like to say a massive thank you to all our colleagues who helped make this event such a memorable occasion.”
