Congratulations to Sarah Simpson for qualifying as the Trust’s first orthodontic therapist.
Orthodontic therapists are a relatively new addition to the orthodontic team. Their role is to work alongside a specialist orthodontist or dentist to perform routine orthodontic treatments.
Sarah has been a dental nurse in the Maxillofacial and Orthodontist Department since joining the Trust in 2016. Last year she decided to branch out in her career and train to become an orthodontic therapist which was funded by the Trust.
Sarah has now completed and passed her training. She said: “Through the support of the orthodontic team I feel I have achieved another goal towards my professional development and look forward to utilising my newly acquired skills and knowledge.”
Sharon Humby, Senior Sister, Maxillofacial and Orthodontist Department said: “Sarah embraced this challenge and worked hard to achieve her goal. Since qualifying she has worked tirelessly to make sure this new role is effective in the department and beneficial for the patients.
“All the staff have shown their support for Sarah which shows what a great team they are. Well done Sarah.”
Following Sarah’s positivity and success, another dental nurse in the team is now also training to be an orthodontic therapist.
