Medway NHS Foundation Trust has been allocated £4,761,000 from the government’s Estates Safety Fund for 2025/2026, helping us make some of our hospital buildings safer.
This forms part of £750 million of capital funding recently announced by the Government to address critical infrastructure and safety risks in NHS hospital buildings.
The Estates Safety Fund invests in relatively small scale but important building safety works.

At Medway Maritime Hospital, this funding will help us to:
- install new cooling equipment to prevent equipment failure
- replace an on-call system on the maternity ward to improve patient safety
- replace old flooring to comply to infection, prevention and control standards
- make improvements to our neonatal intensive care unit
- create changing facilities in the maternity areas, and
- make adjustments to working and storage space to make it compliant.
Neil McElduff, Director of Estates and Facilities, Medway NHS Foundation Trust said: “We welcome the news that we have successfully been allocated £4.7 million through government funding.
“Our Estates and Facilitates Team has worked hard over the last few months to secure this much-needed investment.
“This funding is crucial to help us make sure our patients, visitors and staff are in buildings that are safe, comfortable and fit for purpose and aligns with our vision to continually improve our services.”
