Patients at Medway Maritime Hospital are benefitting from 30 new wheelchairs, funded through nearly £24,000 raised by The Medway Hospital Charity.
The additional chairs were provided following requests from the Trust’s Patient Experience Team, who have acted on feedback gathered from patients and their families.
Ensuring that patients can move safely, comfortably and without delay around the hospital – for appointments, scans and other essential care – is a key part of delivering a positive experience. The additional wheelchairs will make it easier for patients to get to where they need to be, supporting efforts to provide the best standard of care across the hospital.
Donna Law, Head of The Medway Hospital Charity, said:
“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who supports us, particularly those who play the Make a Smile lottery.
‘’Thanks to their generosity, we’ve been able to fund these important new pieces of equipment for the hospital. The feedback has been wonderful, and we are delighted they are already making a real difference.”

Nikki Lewis, Associate Director of Patient Experience, added:
“Putting patients first is a key priority for us, and these new wheelchairs will really support patients during their time in hospital.
‘’Our thanks go to The Medway Hospital Charity and its supporters – the funding is truly appreciated.”
The 30 new wheelchairs, along with the existing stock, are now available to borrow from the hospital’s main entrance. Patients and visitors are kindly asked to return them promptly after use so they remain available for others.
Since 1995, The Medway Hospital Charity has supported patients, staff and volunteers by funding medical equipment, improving hospital spaces, and promoting wellbeing.
