Families are encouraged to prepare for common health issues ahead of the school summer holidays, which begin this week.
If you’re planning to travel this summer, make sure you order and collect any prescription medicines you may need before you go, and remember to take them with you.
Repeat prescriptions can be ordered easily through the NHS App, available on the App Store or Google Play, where you can also nominate a pharmacy, helping you save time and manage your healthcare needs more conveniently.
It’s also a good idea to check your medicines cabinet and stock up on essentials such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, indigestion remedies and antihistamines.
If you or your children are not well, get advice from your pharmacist at the first sign of feeling ill – don’t wait for it to get more serious.
You can get instant advice and prescription medication for seven common conditions without seeing a GP. Visit Pharmacy First for more information.
Visit an urgent treatment centre (UTC) if you have a suspected broken bone or fracture, a sprain or a strain, minor cut, burn or scald. Live waiting times for urgent treatment centres can be found at www.kmhealthandcare.uk/urgent-care.
Parents and carers can also download a handy guide for five to 11-year-olds, which has useful information about health services, vaccinations, advice on common childhood health problems and items you should have at home.
For urgent medical help that isn’t an emergency, you can visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111, which is free and available 24-hours a day, every day of the year.
You can find more information about choosing the right NHS service at www.StopThinkChoose.co.uk.
