Home birth service reinstatement

Date: 02 February 2021

Homebirth news

Following ongoing discussions with SECAmb, we are very pleased to announce that we are once again able to support home births commencing 2nd February 2021 from 9am .

Our home birth service was temporarily suspended on 31 December 2020, due to advice from SECAmb that they were not able to guarantee an ambulance response time to women who planned to give birth at home. This position has now improved; on the very rare occasions that it may be necessary, a swift response from the ambulance service can now be facilitated should a transfer to hospital be required.

We will continue to keep the situation under review, but we hope and expect that the service will be able to continue to support women giving birth at home.  Our priorities are, as always, the safety and wellbeing of the women under our care.

If you are pregnant and would like information about home birth, please speak to your community Midwife.
