League of Friends Coffee Shop – joint statement

Date: 17 November 2020

News update image

As you will be aware, work has not yet started on the new Coffee Shop for The Medway League of Friends, and we wanted to provide you with an update on the current position.

The on-going coronavirus pandemic is continuing to affect all our lives and this has obviously had an impact on the number of people coming into the hospital, especially as visiting has had to be limited to reduce the spread of infection.  This has led to a reduction in footfall with only staff and contractors able to access the shops, and a significant impact on the turnover for the League.

Following discussions, it has therefore been agreed by the League and the Trust that the coffee shop project will be postponed and we will review the position towards the spring of 2021.

Clearly this is a challenging time, and understandably before committing a considerable sum of money, the Trustees of the League need to feel confident that the project will be viable for the charity.

We will update you further once discussions have resumed in the spring.
