Local school presents Medway Maritime Hospital with health and wellbeing mural

Pupils from Robert Napier School in Gillingham have presented Medway Maritime Hospital with a beautifully crafted piece of artwork.

In what is a new and exciting partnership, pupils have produced a specially commissioned mural to help brighten up and rejuvenate the main corridor of the hospital.

The artwork encapsulates the importance of health and wellbeing and is a clear reference to the Trust’s decision to become a smoke-free site. Young people from the school in Gillingham recently helped celebrate and mark the smoke-free launch by performing a stirring rendition of Sing – the 2012 song written by Take That singer-songwriter, Gary Barlow, and composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Karen Rule, Director of Nursing, joined pupils from Robert Napier School at a special unveiling of the mural. Karen said: “The mural is absolutely stunning and has done wonders in terms of helping brighten up the main corridor. Staff, patients and visitors are already commenting on how eye-catching it is.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Robert Napier School for putting in the hours to produce the mural. They are clearly a very talented group of young people, and we look forward to working with them on further projects in the near future.”

Kasia Evans at Robert Napier School said: “I’m very proud of the students supporting a long-standing local institution such as Medway Maritime Hospital, and hopefully making the patients and staff smile a little more brightly as they walk past. The students really enjoyed getting involved and they can’t wait to get arty for the community again.”

Medway Maritime Hospital is currently working with Robert Napier School about the possibility of further artwork being produced and displayed throughout the site.
