Training and support given to trainee medical students by our gynaecology and obstetrics teams has been recognised by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG).
Following feedback provided by trainees through the college’s Training Evaluation Form (TEF) about their experiences with our teams, we have been highly commended in the TEF Awards for its performance as a medium-sized training unit, with the size based on our birth numbers.
The TEF, which focuses on areas like support, supervision, professional development, wellbeing, and training quality, is used by the RCOG to monitor the quality of training provided and identify strengths and areas for improvement within training environments.
As part of the RCOG’s commitment to promoting excellence, the teams have been invited to share their insights into how they achieved such positive feedback to help other training units learn from its success. Examples include:
- Being responsive to trainee feedback.
- Escalating trainee feedback and concerns during consultant meetings in a timely fashion.
- Robust supervisor reports for all trainees – Foundation, GP and ST trainees.
- Involvement in the delivery of formal and informal teaching.
Hany Habeeb, Consultant Gynaecologist and Clinical Director for the women’s division, said: “This recognition reflects the dedication, professionalism, and collaborative spirit of everyone involved in training and education across the unit. Well done to everyone involved.”
