Darren Cattell, Director of Finance at Medway NHS Foundation Trust said: “As a Trust, we identified early last year that our fire safety standards were of concern and commissioned a peer-to-peer review with Kent Fire and Rescue Service in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of our fire safety standards across the entire Trust estate.

“As a result of the findings presented in the review, we are now able to tackle and address all areas of concern. This has also included the appointment of a permanent Fire Officer into post, fire drills conducted on a regular basis, computerised evacuation exercises for high dependency patient areas and the replacement of outdated fire evacuation equipment. These measures will ensure that safety standards are thoroughly met and maintained across the Trust now and into the future.

“It is important to mention that the findings of the review reflect a point in time - since when much has changed. I am pleased to say we are now well on the way to being fully compliant with the recommendations of the Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

“We continue to work in partnership with KFRS to ensure we meet best practice.”
