Siobhan Callanan will become Interim Chief Executive of Medway NHS Foundation Trust from Wednesday 1 April, taking over from Jon Wade, who leaves Medway on Tuesday 31 March.
Siobhan joined the Trust last June as Interim Deputy Chief Executive. She is a highly experienced and respected leader and nurse, who began her career at the Whittington Hospital in London before taking up her first role in Kent in 1995.
Having already played a central role in shaping Medway’s improvement journey, Siobhan brings continuity, compassionate leadership and a clear commitment to the values that matter most to all those we serve.
Thank you and farewell to Jon Wade
John Goulston, Chair, Medway NHS Foundation Trust, said: “On behalf of the Board, I would like to sincerely thank Jon for his leadership over the past year. He has led Medway through a period of significant challenge and change, always focussed on what matters most to patients and colleagues.
“During this time, he has helped drive important progress for patients and has played a central role in laying the foundations of a strong and effective Group with Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust.
“Jon’s commitment to improving care, strengthening our culture, and putting the organisation on a more sustainable footing has been clear throughout, and is a credit to his dedication and service. His contribution has strengthened Medway and provided a platform on which Siobhan and the Trust Leadership Team will continue to build.
“Jon will also be stepping down as Chief Executive of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust this summer to return home to Norfolk after several years working away from his family. We wish him every success and happiness in the future.”
Next steps
Recruitment for a substantive Chief Executive at Medway is already under way.
John Goulston added: “As we look ahead, our priorities are clear. We must make further progress in treating patients sooner and ensuring timely access to safe, high quality care. We must continue to improve outcomes, using evidence, innovation, and collaboration to deliver the best possible results for every person who relies on us.
“We must also continue the work to transform our culture so that our staff feel supported, respected, and empowered to do their best work. And we must significantly strengthen our financial position, changing the way we work so that we live within our means. This will require us to continue making difficult and courageous decisions that may, at times, be challenging to navigate.
“I know Siobhan will lead this work with great care, determination and purpose. I have every confidence that, under her leadership, we will continue to build momentum, tackle challenges with honesty and ambition, and deliver the improvements our patients and communities rightly expect.”
