A new state-of-the-art X-ray machine is now fully operational at Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital, improving access to high-quality diagnostic imaging for patients living in Swale.
The previous machine was removed in June 2025 due to deteriorating image quality and increasing downtime due to replacement parts becoming harder to source for the ageing machine.
Thanks to a £500,000 investment, we have carried out significant refurbishment and installation works, in partnership with the owners of the building, to accommodate the new machine.
The works, which were completed in February this year, included reconfiguration of the room, adjustments to the ceiling height and repositioning of equipment.
Operating Monday to Friday, from 8am to 8pm, patients attending the hospital’s minor injuries unit (MIU), outpatient clinics, and those referred by their GP, can now benefit from high-quality, low-dose imaging closer to home, reducing the need to travel to acute hospital sites like Medway Maritime Hospital.
Darren Palmer, Interim Chief Operating Officer, said: “This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing community-based healthcare services and improving patient experience across the region.”
