We are pleased to announce that Medway NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded the ‘Patient Flow Programme of the Year Award’ at a ceremony showcasing excellence in healthcare.

The announcement came at the annual Executive Patient Flow Summit where more than 200 NHS managers discussed about new strategies, models and solutions that can be put in place to avoid unnecessary delays in hospital for patients.

Improving patient flow is a key priority at Medway and will help to ensure that patients get home to their families quicker, freeing up beds for new arrivals and reducing pressure and delays in our Emergency Department.

Thanks to the work carried out by staff across the hospital we have successfully increased the number of patients being discharged, and implemented a new model of care which includes ensuring that patients see the same doctor throughout their stay.

Executive Director of Transformation for Medway NHS Foundation Trust, Jack Tabner, said:  “Our approach in tackling some of the Trust’s historic challenges has led to improvements in the experience of our patients. To be in the same category as other leading hospital trusts is an honour owed entirely to our hardworking and committed staff.”

“Of course, we know we still have much more work to do to ensure that we can consistently provide our community with the level of care it expects, but this award demonstrates that we are very much moving in the right direction.”
