CT scans

A CT (computerised tomography) scan uses x-rays to take a series of detailed images of the body. The scanning couch moves up and through the doughnut shaped scanner taking pictures as it travels through. It is NOT a tunnel scanner like MRI. Some CT scans require you to be given a contrast agent, this will be indicated on your appointment letter and information can be seen in the leaflet provided with this letter.

The CT Department is open 24 hours a day and provides a service to many patient pathways throughout the hospital such as A&E, outpatients and inpatients.

CT trained Radiographers undertake your scan and your results will be with your Referrer within 7-10 days.

The CT Department is located in Level 2, Red Zone. Please buzz to enter the CT reception and check in for your appointment here.
