Respiratory medicine

Respiratory illness can cause people to have a cough or have difficulty breathing. The respiratory medicine service is responsible for investigating, diagnosing and treating lung diseases, working with the x-ray (radiology) department and the cardiorespiratory team.
We provide inpatient, emergency and community care for people in Medway and Swale at Medway, Sittingbourne Memorial and Sheppey Community Hospitals.
We look after all lung diseases and acute lung infections including:
  • asthma
  • pneumonia
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • lung fibrosis
  • bronchiectasis
  • and other causes of breathing difficulties
Referral to this service is normally through a GP.
