Ultrasound

An ultrasound scan is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to create an image of part of the inside of the body. The exam is carried out by a Radiologist (Doctor) or a Sonographer. A device called an Ultrasound probe creates the soundwaves; these soundwaves bounce off body parts and create “echoes”. These echoes are then turned into moving images.

The Radiologists/Sonographers are able to use the images produced during your scan to provide a diagnosis which will be sent back to your Referrer.

We see a selection of patients from Inpatients, Outpatients and Emergency Department Patients. Within Medway Foundation Trust, Pregnancy scanning is carried out in the Fetal Medicine Department.

Clinic patients will have their results available for their appointment with their Consultant. GP patient results are available to their GP and sent back to them in 7-10 days.

If you are an outpatient or are being referred from your GP for your ultrasound, please check in at North Wing X-ray, Level 2, Red Zone.
