We are committed in providing high standards of training through our apprenticeship programme. We work closely with over twenty different training providers, colleges and universities across the country to deliver specialist apprenticeship pathways; helping our staff learn new skills, build confidence and support their career aspirations.

“My degree apprenticeship equipped me with valuable theoretical knowledge which I was able to seamlessly apply in real-world scenarios and culminating in a recognised qualification with Chartership to my professional body. Importantly I enjoyed the learning and the format of the course, with 1 day of my work week dedicated to study, allowed me to maintain my work-life balance while studying.”
– Richard, Knowledge and Library Service Strategic Manager
You can be an apprentice at any age and many of our apprentices are between the ages of 30 and 50 years old. Most of our apprenticeships are undertaken by existing staff, but year on year we increase apprenticeship opportunities to external candidates. All our opportunities are advertised on our website and on NHS jobs.
We offer over 28 apprenticeship standards from level 2 to 7 and every year we increase our pathways we offer. Existing Medway staff can express an interest in apprenticeships early on and apply after 6 months in the job.

We have an apprenticeship team to support applications, onboarding and monitor progress for apprentices. Apprenticeship Levy Funding
Fully funded apprenticeship training for health, care and community employers.
Medway NHS Foundation Trust is committed to supporting Kent-based small/medium-sized employers by sharing unused apprenticeship levy funding to help you recruit, develop and retain skilled staff.
What’s on offer?
✔ Up to 100% of apprenticeship training costs funded
✔ Open to small/medium-sized employers
✔ Available for new apprentices or existing staff
✔ Focus on health, care and community-related roles
✔ Hands-on NHS support throughout the process
This funding helps keep public investment working locally, strengthening workforce pipelines across Kent.
Who can apply?
You may be eligible if you are:
- A small or medium-sized employer
- Based in Kent, and
- Operating in, or supporting, the health, care or wider community sector
This includes charities, care providers, GP practices, voluntary organisations and community interest companies.
Large employers like us pay into the national apprenticeship levy. Where funds are not fully used, they can be transferred to smaller employers to cover apprenticeship training costs.
What this means for you:
- Normally, SMEs contribute 5% of training costs (so you save this 5% contribution)
- With levy transfer, training and assessment can be fully funded
- Funding covers apprenticeship training and End-Point Assessment
- Salary costs are not covered
Extra incentives for small/medium employers
You may also be eligible for additional government incentives, including:
- £1,000 payment per apprentice (where criteria apply)
- £2,000 payment per a Foundation Apprentice (launched August 2025)
- Employers with fewer than 50 staff may receive 100% government funding for eligible apprentices aged 16–18, or under 25 with an EHCP or who are or have been in care.
