Our Adult Audiology department provides assessments and rehabilitation for patients with hearing difficulties, tinnitus and/or balance issues.
We are based at Medway Maritime Hospital but also have clinics at the following hospitals:
- Gravesend Community Hospital
- Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital
- Darent Valley Hospital (repair and fitting appointments only)
Audiology referrals for all clinics need to be sent to Medway Maritime Hospital by email or post using the contact details above.
Please ensure your hearing aids are regularly cleaned and maintained. Stretta Aya aids with tubes and tips require yearly tube replacements; all other aids require tube replacements every 6 months.

Our patients can drop off their hearing aids that are not working or faulty at the Volunteers Desk situated in the main entrance of Medway Maritime Hospital between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.
Place your aid in an envelope for the attention of Medway Audiology, and inside provide your full contact details; name, address, phone number and email address along with a description of the fault. PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR HEARING AIDS
You will be contacted when these are ready for collection from the Audiology department.
You can also drop them off at the Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital.

For batteries and tubing to be posted to you, please send a stamped addressed envelope (large stamp).
As well as performing hearing aid assessments and reassessments at GP request, the following diagnostic tests are available following referrals from ENT:

- Otoacoustic emissions
- Acoustic Reflex testing
- Speech Audiometry
- Auditory Processing assessments
- Tinnitus Assessments
- Videonystagmography (VNG)
- Caloric Testing
- Auditory Brainstem Response testing
- Visual Reinforcement Audiometry
- Play Audiometry
- Bone anchored hearing aid assessments
Some of the above tests are only performed at Medway Maritime Hospital.

- Hearing Therapy (For Tinnitus, Hyperacusis, auditory processing disorders and complex hearing losses)
The appointments and devices that we provide are free, however, there is a charge for aids/devices that are lost or damaged due to negligence/neglect.
