“An absolute gem who makes an excellent cup of tea”

A dedicated healthcare worker whose compassion, resilience and kindness left a lasting impression on a patient and her family has been shortlisted for a Hospital Hero Award.

The heartfelt nomination from a grateful relative, was one of 78 received from members of the public as part of this year’s Medway Annual Star Awards. Marina Crockett, a ward hostess from Gillingham, is one of four finalists in the running for the award.

Marina has worked at Medway Maritime Hospital for almost five years including Pembroke Ward, where she cared for the patient whose family nominated her.

The nomination read: “My mother quickly became very fond of Marina. Whenever Marina was on duty, her mood would lift in a way that no medication could replicate. She didn’t just care for my mother’s physical needs; she cared for her as a person.

“Although my mother has since passed away, I will forever be grateful for Marina and the care she provided. She brought comfort not only to my mother but to our entire family during a time when we needed it most.”
