The Spinal MDT at Medway Maritime Hospital has been established since September 2010. Each meeting has representation from Spinal Surgery, Radiology, Acute and Chronic Pain Management and Community Musculoskeletal services. It is completely separate to oncology. The Radiology input to the meeting includes Consultant Radiologist and MRI Reporting Radiographer attendees. The primary aim of the meeting is to provide advice and guidance for the assessors of the musculoskeletal services in the primary care sector to ensure patients enter into the appropriate pathway: whether a referral to secondary care is warranted and which speciality to refer to. Prerequisite is a face to face consultation (history and examination) with the patient and in most cases an up-to date MRI. Interesting cases, queries regarding in-patients and patients of other secondary care specialties are also discussed. Health care providers of other specialties are welcome to present cases with queries about spinal conditions.
The MDT meets fortnightly (uneven weeks) 11.30-13.00 in the Trafalgar Seminar Room.
